The calculator multiplies the bill by the tip percentage divided by 100 to determine the tip amount. It then adds the tip to the initial bill to find the grand total, and divides that total evenly by the number of people. All dollar outputs are rounded to two decimal places.

Reading your result
The Tip result shows the exact dollar gratuity to leave for staff. Total represents the entire payment required to clear the check including the tip. Per person indicates what each group member pays assuming an even, equal division of all costs.
Limitations
This calculator splits costs strictly equally among all members; it does not calculate itemized splits based on individual dish orders or different tax rates. It also does not distinguish whether tip is applied before or after local sales tax, calculating directly from the single entered bill value.
Common questions
Should I calculate the tip on the pretax or post-tax bill amount?+
Standard etiquette suggests tipping on the pretax subtotal, but many diners choose to tip on the total post-tax amount for convenience. Enter whichever subtotal or total you prefer into the Bill field.
How does the calculator handle cents when splitting odd amounts?+
The per-person cost is calculated and rounded to the nearest cent ($0.01). If the split does not divide evenly, individual payments may differ by a cent when collected in cash.
What happens if the party size is set to 1?+
If People is set to 1, the Per person result will simply match the Total bill plus tip.
Does the calculator save my information?+
