Just for fun: a playful compatibility score.
About the Love Calculator
The Love Calculator generates a novelty compatibility score between two names for entertainment purposes. It transforms two entered names into a deterministic percentage using a classic string-hashing algorithm. Anyone looking for a lighthearted game or playful result can use it to compare any pair of names.
- Your name
- The first person's name or nickname entered as text.
- Their name
- The second person's name or nickname entered as text.
Formula and method
h_0 = 7
h_i = (h_{i-1} × 31 + ASCII(c_i)) mod 101
Compatibility = h_n %- h_0Initial seed value of the hash (set to 7)
- h_iRunning hash value after processing character c_i
- c_iThe i-th character in the concatenated lowercase string
- ASCII(c_i)Numeric character code of character c_i
- mod 101Modulo 101 operator, restricting final results to integers from 0 to 100
- h_nFinal hash value representing the compatibility percentage
The tool joins both names together and converts all characters to lowercase. It iterates through each character using an initial seed of 7, multiplying the running total by 31, adding the character's ASCII code, and taking the remainder modulo 101 at each step. The final integer between 0 and 100 is returned as the compatibility percentage.

How to use the Love Calculator
- 1Concatenate the two input names into a single combined text string.
- 2Convert all alphabetical characters in the combined string to lowercase.
- 3Iteratively update a hash value starting at 7 by calculating (previous_hash × 31 + character_code) mod 101 for each character.
- 4Display the final hash integer as a percentage alongside an entertainment disclaimer.
Reading your result
The compatibility result is an integer ranging from 0% to 100%. Higher numbers simply reflect a higher modulo outcome from the text hash rather than any psychological or relationship metric. The output is strictly intended for fun and novelty.
Limitations
The algorithm is entirely deterministic and relies solely on the spelling of the names, ignoring personality traits, values, and emotional connection. Because order matters during string concatenation, entering 'Alex' and 'Sam' yields a different score (64%) than entering 'Sam' and 'Alex'.
Common questions
Does swapping the order of the two names change the score?+
Yes. Because the algorithm appends the second name directly to the end of the first name, the sequence of characters changes, producing a completely different hash result.
Does capitalization or spacing affect the score?+
Capitalization does not change the result because all characters are converted to lowercase, but spaces and punctuation marks have unique ASCII codes and will alter the calculation.
Is this calculator based on astrology, numerology, or science?+
No. It is a mathematical pseudo-random hash algorithm designed solely for amusement and carries no predictive or psychological validity.
Does the calculator save my information?+
Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
