About the Business Days Between Dates
The Business Days Between Dates calculator counts Monday–Friday dates within a date range, including both endpoints when they fall on weekdays. It excludes Saturdays and Sundays but does not exclude public holidays. For the default range of 2026-10-23 through 2026-11-22, it returns 21 business days out of 31 calendar days.
- Start date
- The first calendar date in the inclusive range, entered in YYYY-MM-DD format, with a default of 2026-10-23.
- End date
- The last calendar date in the inclusive range, entered in YYYY-MM-DD format, with a default of 2026-11-22.
Formula and method
C = (E − S) + 1; W = Σ[d = S through E] I(d is Saturday or Sunday); B = C − W. For S = 2026-10-23 and E = 2026-11-22: C = 30 + 1 = 31, W = 10, and B = 31 − 10 = 21.
- SStart date of the inclusive range.
- EEnd date of the inclusive range; E − S is the difference in calendar days.
- CTotal calendar days, including both endpoints.
- dEach calendar date from S through E.
- IIndicator equal to 1 when the specified condition is true and 0 otherwise.
- WNumber of Saturdays and Sundays in the inclusive range.
- BBusiness days: the number of Monday–Friday dates in the range.
Find the calendar-day difference between the end and start dates, then add one to include both endpoints. Count the Saturdays and Sundays within that range and subtract them from the total. In the default range, 2026-10-23 is a Friday and is counted as a business day; 2026-11-22 is a Sunday and is counted as a weekend day. The 31 calendar days contain 10 weekend days, leaving 21 business days.

Reading your result
“Business days (inclusive) = 21” means 21 dates in the range fall on Monday through Friday, with weekday endpoints included. “Total calendar days = 31” counts every date from 2026-10-23 through 2026-11-22, including both endpoints. “Weekend days = 10” counts the Saturdays and Sundays removed from the business-day total. “Note = Public holidays are not excluded” means any holiday falling on a weekday remains included in the 21 business days.
Limitations
This calculator assumes a Monday–Friday workweek and a Saturday–Sunday weekend. It does not adjust for public holidays, company closures, alternate work schedules, or partial working days. It counts calendar dates rather than elapsed hours and should not be treated as an authoritative legal, banking, or contractual deadline calculator. The stated formula assumes the end date is on or after the start date.
Common questions
Are the start and end dates both counted as business days?+
Both endpoints are considered, but only Monday–Friday dates count as business days. In the default example, Friday 2026-10-23 counts as a business day, while Sunday 2026-11-22 counts only toward calendar days and weekend days.
Why does the default range contain 31 calendar days rather than 30?+
The difference between 2026-10-23 and 2026-11-22 is 30 calendar days. The calculator adds one because it includes both the start date and the end date.
Does the count of 21 business days exclude public holidays?+
No. The default count removes only the 10 Saturdays and Sundays from the 31 calendar days. Any public holiday on a Monday through Friday is still counted.
Can I use this calculator for a workweek that includes Saturdays?+
Not directly. This tool always excludes Saturdays and Sundays, so its result will not match a schedule that treats Saturday as a working day or uses different days off.
Does the calculator save my information?+
Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
