About the Time Zone Calculator
This calculator converts a specific clock time from one UTC offset to another. It helps travelers, remote workers, and international teams schedule meetings across global time zones by accounting for hour differentials. The tool outputs the adjusted 24-hour time along with an indicator if the shift crosses midnight.
- Time
- The starting local time expressed in 24-hour format (HH:MM), ranging from 00:00 to 23:59.
- From UTC offset
- The coordinated universal time (UTC) offset of the source location in hours, typically ranging from -12 to +14.
- To UTC offset
- The coordinated universal time (UTC) offset of the target location in hours, typically ranging from -12 to +14.
Formula and method
Converted Minutes = (Hours_in × 60 + Minutes_in) + (Offset_to − Offset_from) × 60 Normalized Minutes = ((Converted Minutes mod 1440) + 1440) mod 1440 Result Time = floor(Normalized Minutes / 60) : (Normalized Minutes mod 60)
- Hours_inThe hour component parsed from the input time (0 to 23)
- Minutes_inThe minute component parsed from the input time (0 to 59)
- Offset_fromStarting UTC offset in hours
- Offset_toTarget UTC offset in hours
- 1440Total number of minutes in a standard 24-hour day (24 × 60)
The tool parses the input time into total minutes from midnight and adds the difference between the target and origin UTC offsets converted to minutes. If the resulting total is 1440 or higher, it tags the result as '(next day)'; if less than 0, it tags it as '(previous day)'. The total minutes are then normalized modulo 1440 and formatted as two-digit hours and minutes.

Inputs
- Time14:00
- From UTC offset-5
- To UTC offset1
Results
- Converted time20:00
How to use the Time Zone Calculator
- 1Convert the input time string into total minutes from midnight (Hours × 60 + Minutes).
- 2Subtract the source UTC offset from the target UTC offset and multiply the difference by 60 minutes.
- 3Add the offset minute difference to the initial minutes to determine the raw converted time and day boundary crossing.
- 4Apply modulo 1440 to wrap the time into a 24-hour window and format the result as HH:MM with any day shift note.
Reading your result
The result displays the converted time in 24-hour format (HH:MM). If the time shift crosses midnight forward, it appends '(next day)'. If the shift moves backward past midnight, it displays '(previous day)'.
Limitations
This calculator uses static UTC numerical offsets and does not automatically look up Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes or local seasonal rules. It also assumes integer hour differences based on the inputs provided unless fractional offsets are explicitly entered.
Common questions
How do I know my location's UTC offset?+
UTC offset is the number of hours your local time is ahead of (+) or behind (-) Coordinated Universal Time. For example, US Eastern Standard Time is UTC-5, while Central European Time is UTC+1.
Does this calculator account for Daylight Saving Time automatically?+
No. You must adjust the UTC offset numbers manually if either location is currently observing Daylight Saving Time (for example, switching US Eastern Time from -5 during standard time to -4 during daylight saving time).
Can I enter half-hour or 45-minute time zone offsets?+
Yes, you can enter fractional numbers such as 5.5 (for UTC+5:30 in India) or 5.75 (for UTC+5:45 in Nepal) into the offset fields.
Does the calculator save my information?+
Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
