About the Text Palindrome Checker
The Text Palindrome Checker tests whether text reads the same forward and backward when letter case and punctuation are ignored. It compares the cleaned character sequence with its reverse rather than comparing whole words. For the default text, "Hello world. This is a sample.", the result is "Palindrome = No".
- Text
- The text to check, defaulting to "Hello world. This is a sample.", is a character string with no measurement units.
Formula and method
s = clean(t); r = reverse(s); Palindrome = Yes if s = r, otherwise No. For t = "Hello world. This is a sample.", s = "helloworldthisisasample"; s ≠ reverse(s), so Palindrome = No.
- tThe original text entered in the Text field.
- clean(t)Normalization that makes letter case consistent and removes punctuation and spacing before comparison.
- sThe normalized character sequence.
- rThe characters of s arranged in reverse order.
- PalindromeThe Yes or No result indicating whether the normalized sequence equals its reverse.
Normalize the input so that capitalization, punctuation, and spacing do not affect the comparison. Reverse the resulting character sequence and compare it with the normalized original. With "Hello world. This is a sample.", the normalized sequence is "helloworldthisisasample". Its first character is h and its last character is e, so the sequences cannot match and the result is No.

- PalindromeNo
How to use the Text Palindrome Checker
- 1Enter or paste the text you want to test into the Text field.
- 2To reproduce the worked example, keep the default text exactly as "Hello world. This is a sample.".
- 3Run the palindrome check.
- 4Read the Palindrome output: the default text produces "Palindrome = No".
- 5When reviewing the result, compare characters after normalization, not word order or sentence meaning.
Reading your result
The Palindrome row reports Yes when the normalized text is identical forward and backward, and No when it differs. For "Hello world. This is a sample.", "Palindrome = No" means the cleaned character sequence is not symmetric. The result is a binary test, not a score for how close the text is to being a palindrome.
Limitations
This is a character-order test, not an assessment of grammar, meaning, or pronunciation. The worked method treats spaces as separators to ignore along with punctuation. Exact handling of digits, emoji, accented letters, combining marks, and non-Latin case rules depends on the tool's normalization implementation. Empty input or text containing only ignored characters may need special handling; do not assume a Yes result in those cases represents a meaningful palindrome.
Common questions
Why does "Hello world. This is a sample." return No?+
After normalization, it becomes "helloworldthisisasample". The opening h does not match the closing e, which is enough to show that the sequence is not a palindrome.
Can changing capitalization or punctuation make the same text pass?+
No. Those features are ignored, so changing only capitalization or punctuation leaves the character comparison unchanged.
Does the checker reverse words or individual characters?+
It reverses the normalized character sequence. A phrase with matching words at both ends is not necessarily a character palindrome.
Are accented letters automatically treated as unaccented letters?+
Ignoring case and punctuation does not imply removing accents. Do not assume an accented letter will match its unaccented counterpart unless the tool explicitly supports that normalization.
Does the calculator save my information?+
Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
