About the RV Financing Calculator
The RV Financing Calculator estimates monthly loan payments and total interest when financing a recreational vehicle. It uses the RV price, down payment, annual interest rate, and loan term to show the cost of repaying the financed balance. These estimates help you compare financing terms, but they do not include the ongoing costs of owning and operating an RV.
- RV price ($)
- The RV purchase price in dollars before subtracting your down payment; the default is $85,000.
- Down payment ($)
- The amount you pay toward the RV purchase upfront in dollars, reducing the financed balance; the default is $17,000.
- Annual rate (%)
- The annual interest rate applied to the RV loan, expressed as a percentage; the default is 8%.
- Term (months)
- The number of monthly payments scheduled to repay the RV loan; the default is 120 months.
Formula and method
P = V − D; r = a / 1200; M = P × r / [1 − (1 + r)^(−n)]; I = n × M − P; T = n × M + F. When a = 0, M = P / n. For the supplied inputs, P = $85,000 − $17,000 = $68,000, a = 8, and n = 120. With F = $0, the results are M = $825.03, I = $31,003.32, and T = $99,003.32, rounded for display.
- VRV purchase price in dollars.
- DDown payment in dollars.
- PPrincipal, or the initial amount financed, in dollars.
- aAnnual interest rate entered as a percentage, such as 8 for 8%.
- rMonthly interest rate expressed as a decimal.
- nLoan term in months.
- MMonthly principal-and-interest payment in dollars.
- ITotal interest paid over the scheduled loan term in dollars.
- FUpfront financing fee in dollars; assumed to be zero because the listed inputs do not include a fee field.
- TTotal scheduled loan payments plus any upfront financing fee, excluding the down payment.
Subtract the down payment from the RV price to find the financed principal. Divide the annual percentage rate by 1,200 to obtain the monthly decimal interest rate, then apply the fixed-payment amortization formula over the specified number of months. Multiply the unrounded monthly payment by the term to calculate total loan payments, and subtract the principal to find total interest. Add any applicable upfront financing fee to obtain the final total; the supplied example assumes no fee. Round monetary outputs to cents only after calculating the totals.

How to use the RV Financing Calculator
- 1Enter the RV price in dollars; the default is $85,000.
- 2Enter your down payment in dollars; the default $17,000 reduces the financed balance to $68,000.
- 3Enter the annual loan interest rate as a percentage; the default is 8%.
- 4Enter the repayment term in months; the default is 120 months.
- 5Review the monthly payment, total interest, and total including upfront fee, then adjust the inputs to compare RV financing options.
Reading your result
Monthly payment is the estimated principal-and-interest amount due each month: $825.03 with the default inputs. Total interest is the borrowing cost over all 120 scheduled payments: $31,003.32. Total including upfront fee is the financed principal plus total interest and any upfront financing fee: $99,003.32 in this example, with no fee assumed. Despite its label, that total is not the full RV purchase outlay because it excludes the $17,000 down payment. Totals use the unrounded payment, so multiplying the displayed $825.03 by 120 may produce a small rounding difference.
Limitations
This estimate assumes a fixed interest rate, equal monthly payments, and full repayment over the stated term, with no missed payments, extra payments, or balloon balance. It excludes taxes, title and registration charges, dealer add-ons, insurance, storage, maintenance, fuel, and other RV ownership costs unless applicable purchase charges are already included in the entered price. There is no upfront-fee input, so the example assumes a zero fee. Use the contractual interest rate rather than a fee-inclusive APR when those differ. Lender rounding, payment timing, daily interest accrual, and fees can change actual payments and totals. The down payment should not exceed the RV price, and the term must be positive. Results are estimates, not a financing offer.
Common questions
Does the $99,003.32 total include my $17,000 RV down payment?+
No. It represents repayment of the $68,000 financed balance plus $31,003.32 in interest, with no upfront financing fee assumed. Budget for the down payment separately.
Why does the RV calculator show “Total including upfront fee” without a fee input?+
The supplied example uses a zero upfront financing fee, so this row equals total scheduled loan payments. If your lender charges a fee paid separately, add it to your budget; if the fee is financed, it increases the loan principal and affects both payments and interest.
How would extending the default 120-month RV loan affect the estimate?+
Keeping the financed balance and 8% rate unchanged, a longer term generally lowers the monthly payment but increases total interest. It also keeps the RV financed for longer, which can increase the risk of owing more than its resale value.
Does the $825.03 monthly payment cover RV insurance, storage, and maintenance?+
No. It covers only the estimated principal and interest on the RV loan. Add insurance, storage or campsite charges, maintenance, registration, and fuel separately when assessing affordability.
Does the calculator save my information?+
Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
