About the Plywood Sheet Weight Calculator

The Plywood Sheet Weight Calculator estimates the weight of one rectangular plywood sheet from its length, width, thickness, and material density. It converts thickness from millimetres to metres, calculates sheet volume, and multiplies that volume by density to give an estimated weight in kilograms. Use it to help plan plywood handling, storage, or transport.

Length (m)
The sheet's length in metres, with a default of 2.44 m.
Width (m)
The sheet's width in metres, with a default of 1.22 m.
Thickness (mm)
The sheet's thickness in millimetres, with a default of 18 mm.
Density (kg/m³)
The plywood's mass per unit volume in kilograms per cubic metre, with a default of 600 kg/m³.

Formula and method

m = L × W × (t / 1000) × ρ = 2.44 × 1.22 × (18 / 1000) × 600 = 32.14944 kg
  • mEstimated sheet mass in kilograms, commonly called sheet weight.
  • LSheet length in metres.
  • WSheet width in metres.
  • tSheet thickness in millimetres; dividing by 1000 converts it to metres.
  • ρAverage plywood density in kilograms per cubic metre.

The calculator treats the sheet as a solid rectangular panel with uniform average density. With the default inputs, thickness converts from 18 mm to 0.018 m. Multiplying 2.44 m by 1.22 m gives an area of 2.9768 m²; multiplying by 0.018 m gives a volume of 0.0535824 m³. Multiplying that volume by 600 kg/m³ produces the result of 32.14944 kg.

How to use the Plywood Sheet Weight Calculator

  1. 1Enter the sheet length in metres; the default is 2.44.
  2. 2Enter the sheet width in metres; the default is 1.22.
  3. 3Enter the thickness in millimetres; the default is 18, and the calculator converts it to metres.
  4. 4Enter the plywood density in kg/m³; use supplier data where available rather than assuming the default of 600 applies to every panel.
  5. 5Read the estimated sheet weight in kilograms; the default inputs produce 32.14944 kg.

Reading your result

The result row gives the estimated weight of one sheet in kilograms. For the default inputs, the result is 32.14944 kg, or about 32.15 kg when rounded to two decimal places. This is not a load-bearing capacity or a recommended lifting limit. Although commonly described as weight, the kilogram output is technically mass.

Limitations

The calculation assumes a rectangular sheet of uniform thickness with no cutouts and a representative average density. Actual plywood density varies with wood species, veneer construction, adhesive content, and moisture. Nominal dimensions may differ from measured dimensions, and coatings or laminates add weight unless accounted for in the density. The number of displayed decimal places does not indicate real-world accuracy; weigh the panel or use manufacturer specifications when accurate handling or transport weights are required.

Common questions

Is 600 kg/m³ the correct density for all plywood?+

No. It is the default estimate, not a universal plywood density. Use the manufacturer's density for the specific panel type and moisture condition whenever available.

Why is the 18 mm thickness divided by 1000?+

Length and width are entered in metres, and density is in kg/m³, so thickness must also be in metres. Dividing 18 by 1000 gives 0.018 m and keeps the volume calculation in cubic metres.

Does the result include paint, laminate, or other surface layers?+

Only if their contribution is already represented by the entered overall thickness and average density. Otherwise, the result estimates the plywood alone, and the surface layers' weight must be added separately.

How do I estimate the weight of several identical plywood sheets?+

Multiply the single-sheet result by the number of sheets. With the default inputs, use 32.14944 kg per sheet, and add packaging, pallets, or other transport materials separately.

Does the calculator save my information?+

Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
