About the Palindrome Number Calculator

The Palindrome Number Calculator checks whether a nonnegative integer has the same decimal digits when read forward and backward. For the default input 12321, the reversed digits are also 12321, so the calculator returns Palindrome = Yes.

Nonnegative integer
Enter the whole number to check, with no negative sign or fractional part; the default is 12321, and the input is unitless.

Formula and method

s = decimalDigits(n); r = reverse(s); P = Yes if s = r, and No otherwise. For n = 12321: s = "12321", r = "12321", so P = Yes.
  • nThe nonnegative integer entered.
  • sThe standard base-10 digit string of n, without leading zeros except for zero itself.
  • rThe digit string obtained by reversing the order of the characters in s.
  • PThe Palindrome result: Yes when the forward and reversed digit strings match, and No otherwise.

Represent the input as its standard decimal digit string, reverse that string, and compare the two strings exactly. With 12321, the first and last digits match, the second and second-to-last digits match, and the middle digit stays in place. The forward and reversed strings are identical, yielding Palindrome = Yes.

How to use the Palindrome Number Calculator

  1. 1Enter a nonnegative integer in the Nonnegative integer field, or keep the default 12321.
  2. 2Check that the entry is a whole number without a negative sign, decimal point, or digit separators.
  3. 3Run the palindrome check to compare the decimal digits with their reverse.
  4. 4Read the Palindrome output: the default input 12321 produces Yes.

Reading your result

The Palindrome row reports Yes if every digit matches its corresponding digit when read from the opposite end, or No if any pair differs. For 12321, Palindrome = Yes means the integer reads identically forward and backward; this is a categorical result, not a numerical score.

Limitations

The check assumes standard base-10 integer notation. Leading zeros are not part of an integer's standard representation and should not be used to create symmetry. Negative numbers, fractions, and decimal-form entries are outside the intended input scope. The maximum supported digit count depends on the calculator implementation; very long integers require exact digit handling to avoid rounding errors.

Common questions

Why does 12321 return Palindrome = Yes?+

Reversing its digits produces 12321 again. Both outer pairs match, and the center digit remains unchanged.

Do zero and single-digit integers count as palindromes?+

Yes. Each has a single digit in standard decimal notation, so reversing it leaves it unchanged.

Can leading zeros make an integer a palindrome?+

Not for this integer check. Leading zeros are omitted from the standard representation, so only the digits of the integer itself determine the result.

Does a palindrome have to contain an odd number of digits?+

No. Both odd- and even-length digit strings can be palindromes. Every pair of digits equally far from the ends must match; an odd-length string also has a center digit that matches itself.

Does the calculator save my information?+

Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
