About the Invoice Factoring Cost Calculator

The Invoice Factoring Cost Calculator estimates the upfront cash and final reserve payment from factoring an invoice with a flat fee charged on its face value. It also expresses that fee as a simple annualized percentage of the initial advance using the expected collection period. With the default inputs, it shows a $21,250.00 advance, a $750.00 fee, and a $3,000.00 reserve release.

Invoice face value ($)
The full dollar amount of the invoice being factored, with a default of $25,000.
Advance rate (%)
The percentage of the invoice face value paid upfront by the factor, with a default of 85%.
Flat fee on invoice (%)
The one-time factoring fee as a percentage of the invoice face value, with a default of 3%.
Days until collection (days)
The number of days from receiving the advance until invoice collection, with a default of 45 days.

Formula and method

A = V × (a / 100); F = V × (f / 100); R = V − A − F; S = (F / A) × (365 / d) × 100%. With the default inputs: A = 25000 × 0.85 = $21,250.00; F = 25000 × 0.03 = $750.00; R = 25000 − 21250 − 750 = $3,000.00; S = (750 / 21250) × (365 / 45) × 100% = 28.63%.
  • VInvoice face value in dollars.
  • aAdvance rate entered as a percentage.
  • fFlat fee on the invoice entered as a percentage.
  • dDays from the initial advance until collection.
  • AInitial advance in dollars.
  • FFlat factoring fee in dollars.
  • RReserve released after deducting the factoring fee, in dollars.
  • SFee annualized on the initial advance as a simple percentage using a 365-day year.

Convert the advance and fee percentages to decimals, then multiply each by the invoice face value to calculate the initial advance and flat fee. Subtract both amounts from the invoice face value to obtain the reserve released on collection. Divide the fee by the initial advance, scale by 365 divided by the collection days, and express the result as a percentage. Round displayed dollar amounts and the annualized percentage to two decimal places.

Reading your result

Initial advance is the cash received upfront: $21,250.00 with the default inputs. Factoring fee is the dollar cost charged on the full invoice: $750.00. Reserve released after fee is the remaining cash paid after full collection: $3,000.00, calculated from the $3,750.00 withheld reserve less the fee. Fee annualized on advance, simple is 28.63%; it scales the 45-day fee relative to the advance to a 365-day basis, rather than representing an additional charge. Total cash received across the advance and reserve release is $24,250.00.

Limitations

This model assumes the invoice is collected in full, the flat fee is deducted from the reserve at collection, and there are no other charges. It excludes recurring or tiered fees, minimum charges, wire fees, customer disputes, partial payments, and recourse obligations. Collection days affect only the annualized percentage, not the flat dollar fee. The annualized result is a simple comparison measure, not a compounded effective annual rate or a legally defined APR. A positive invoice value, positive advance, and collection period greater than zero are needed for meaningful annualization. If the fee exceeds the withheld reserve, the reserve calculation becomes negative and may indicate an additional amount owed under the agreement rather than a payment to you.

Common questions

Is the 3% flat fee charged on the invoice or the advance?+

It is charged on the $25,000 invoice face value, giving a $750.00 fee; it is not calculated on the $21,250.00 advance.

Why is the reserve release $3,000.00 rather than $3,750.00?+

The 85% advance leaves $3,750.00 withheld from the invoice. This calculator deducts the $750.00 factoring fee from that reserve, leaving $3,000.00 payable after full collection.

Why does a 3% invoice fee become 28.63% annualized?+

The annualized measure uses the smaller $21,250.00 advance as its denominator and scales the 45-day period to a year: ($750.00 / $21,250.00) × (365 / 45) × 100% = 28.63%. The actual flat fee remains $750.00.

Will later collection increase the factoring fee shown here?+

No. With a fixed flat fee, changing collection days leaves the advance, fee, and reserve release unchanged; a longer period lowers the simple annualized percentage. If your contract adds fees as time passes, this calculator does not model those charges.

Does the calculator save my information?+

Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
