About the Equipment Financing Calculator
The Equipment Financing Calculator estimates fixed monthly payments for business equipment purchased with a down payment. It subtracts the down payment from the equipment price and spreads the remaining balance over the selected term using the annual interest rate. It also estimates total interest and the total of loan payments, helping you compare the financing commitment with the upfront cash required.
- Equipment price ($)
- The equipment's purchase price in dollars before subtracting the down payment, with a default of $60,000.
- Down payment ($)
- The amount paid upfront toward the equipment price in dollars, with a default of $10,000.
- Annual rate (%)
- The fixed annual interest rate expressed as a percentage, with a default of 8%.
- Term (months)
- The number of monthly payments over which the equipment loan is repaid, with a default of 60 months.
Formula and method
P = C − D; r = a / 1200; M = P × r / [1 − (1 + r)^(−n)]; I = n × M − P; T = n × M. If a = 0, M = P / n and I = 0. With C = 60000, D = 10000, a = 8, and n = 60, the displayed results are M = $1,013.82, I = $10,829.18, and T = $60,829.18. Totals use the unrounded payment. No separate upfront fee is supplied by these inputs, so the output labeled 'Total including upfront fee' equals T.
- CEquipment purchase price in dollars.
- DDown payment in dollars.
- PFinanced principal in dollars after subtracting the down payment.
- aAnnual interest rate entered as a percentage.
- rMonthly interest rate expressed as a decimal.
- nNumber of monthly payments.
- MFixed monthly loan payment in dollars.
- ITotal interest paid over the full loan term in dollars.
- TTotal scheduled loan payments in dollars, excluding the down payment and any separately charged fees.
Subtract the down payment from the equipment price to find the financed principal. Convert the annual percentage rate to a monthly decimal rate and apply the standard fully amortizing loan formula. Multiply the unrounded monthly payment by the term to calculate total loan payments, then subtract principal to calculate total interest. Round each displayed monetary result to cents.

How to use the Equipment Financing Calculator
- 1Enter the equipment price; the default purchase price is $60,000.
- 2Enter the cash down payment; the default $10,000 reduces the financed principal to $50,000.
- 3Enter the annual interest rate; the default is 8%.
- 4Enter the repayment term in months; the default is 60 months.
- 5Review the monthly payment, total interest, and total payment rows, keeping the down payment separate from the loan repayment total.
Reading your result
Monthly payment is the estimated recurring loan payment: $1,013.82 with the default inputs. Total interest is the borrowing cost above the $50,000 financed principal: $10,829.18. Total including upfront fee is $60,829.18 in the supplied example; despite its label, this matches principal plus interest, with no separate fee included. It does not include the $10,000 down payment and therefore is not the all-in cost of purchasing the equipment.
Limitations
The estimate assumes a fixed interest rate, equal monthly payments made at the end of each month, and full repayment with no balloon or residual balance. There is no upfront-fee input, so the calculator cannot estimate separately charged financing fees. Taxes, insurance, maintenance, and other ownership expenses are not separately modeled. Use a nonnegative rate, a positive whole-number term, and a down payment between zero and the equipment price. Actual lender schedules may differ because of payment timing, daily interest accrual, rounding, or a final payment adjustment. This is a loan estimate, not a lease quote, tax calculation, or financing approval.
Common questions
How does the down payment affect equipment financing?+
The down payment directly reduces the amount borrowed. With the default $60,000 equipment price and $10,000 down payment, the loan principal is $50,000. A larger down payment lowers the monthly payment and total interest when the rate and term stay unchanged.
Does 'Total including upfront fee' include my equipment down payment?+
No. The default $60,829.18 represents the scheduled loan payments only. The $10,000 down payment is separate, and no additional upfront fee is supplied or modeled by the listed inputs.
Why doesn't multiplying the displayed monthly payment by 60 exactly reproduce the total?+
The displayed $1,013.82 payment is rounded to cents, while the $60,829.18 total is calculated using the unrounded monthly payment. A lender may adjust the final payment to account for rounding.
Can I use this calculator for an equipment lease or a balloon-payment loan?+
Not directly. This calculator assumes the financed equipment balance is fully repaid through equal monthly payments. Lease residual values, purchase options, and balloon payments require a different payment model.
Does the calculator save my information?+
Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
