About the Dividend Yield Calculator
The Dividend Yield Calculator estimates annual dividend income and dividend yield from a constant quarterly dividend per share. Enter the share price, quarterly dividend per share, and shares held to see the annual payout per share, its yield relative to the entered price, and the total annual income for your holding.
- Share price ($)
- The price in dollars for one share, used as the denominator for dividend yield, with a default of $80.
- Quarterly dividend per share ($)
- The cash dividend in dollars paid per share each quarter, assumed constant across four quarters, with a default of $0.75.
- Shares held (shares)
- The number of shares owned and eligible for dividends, measured in shares, with a default of 100.
Formula and method
A = 4 × D; Y = (A ÷ P) × 100; I = A × N. With the default inputs: A = 4 × $0.75 = $3.00 per share annually; Y = ($3.00 ÷ $80) × 100 = 3.75%; I = $3.00 × 100 = $300.00 annually.
- DQuarterly dividend per share, in dollars.
- PShare price, in dollars per share; must be greater than zero.
- NNumber of shares held.
- AAnnual dividend per share, in dollars.
- YAnnual dividend yield, expressed as a percentage.
- ITotal annual dividend income for the holding, in dollars.
The calculator multiplies the quarterly dividend per share by four to estimate the annual dividend per share. It divides that annual amount by the entered share price and multiplies by 100 to obtain dividend yield. Separately, it multiplies the annual dividend per share by the shares held to estimate total annual dividend income before taxes or fees.

Inputs
- Share price80 $
- Quarterly dividend per share0.75 $
- Shares held100 shares
Results
- Annual dividend per share$3.00
- Dividend yield3.75%
- Annual dividend income$300.00
How to use the Dividend Yield Calculator
- 1Enter the share price in dollars; use $80 for the default example and ensure the price is greater than zero.
- 2Enter the quarterly dividend per share; use $0.75 for the default example, not an annual dividend amount.
- 3Enter the number of shares held; use 100 shares for the default example.
- 4Review the annual dividend per share of $3.00 and dividend yield of 3.75% for the default inputs.
- 5Review the annual dividend income of $300.00, which assumes all 100 shares receive four equal quarterly payments.
Reading your result
Annual dividend per share shows the estimated yearly cash payout for one share: $3.00 with the default inputs. Dividend yield expresses that annual payout as a percentage of the entered $80 share price: 3.75%. Annual dividend income shows the estimated yearly cash payout across all 100 shares: $300.00. Yield is a percentage, while the other two outputs are dollar amounts; none includes gains or losses from changes in the share price.
Limitations
The calculation assumes four equal quarterly dividends and an unchanged share count for the full year. Dividends are not guaranteed and may be reduced, suspended, or increased. The estimate excludes dividend reinvestment, compounding, taxes, fees, special dividends, and share-price gains or losses. Actual receipts depend on dividend eligibility and payment timing. Yield depends on the price entered: using a purchase price produces yield on cost rather than yield at the current market price. This is an income estimate, not a total-return forecast or investment recommendation.
Common questions
Should I enter the quarterly or annual dividend per share?+
Enter the quarterly amount. This calculator multiplies it by four, so the default $0.75 quarterly dividend becomes $3.00 per share annually. Entering an annual amount in this field would overstate the result.
Why do shares held affect annual dividend income but not dividend yield?+
Yield compares the annual dividend for one share with the price of one share, so the share count cancels out. With the default inputs, $3.00 divided by $80 gives 3.75%, while $3.00 multiplied by 100 shares gives $300.00 in annual income.
Should I use the current share price or my purchase price?+
Use the current share price to estimate current dividend yield. Use your purchase price to calculate yield on cost. Changing the entered price changes yield but does not change estimated dividend income if the dividend and share count stay the same.
Will I receive the full estimated annual income if I buy shares during the year?+
Not necessarily. The $300.00 default estimate assumes 100 shares qualify for all four quarterly payments. Shares purchased on or after an applicable ex-dividend date generally do not qualify for that payment, so actual income during your first year may differ.
Does the calculator save my information?+
Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
