Convert bar to kilopascals and back.
About the Bar to Kilopascals
The Bar to Kilopascals calculator converts a pressure entered in bar into kilopascals (kPa) using an exact conversion factor of 100. It also shows the reverse relationship so you can convert kilopascals back to bar. With the default input of 1 bar, the result is 100 kilopascals.
- Value in bar (bar)
- The pressure to convert, expressed in bar, with a default value of 1.
Formula and method
p_kPa = 100 × p_bar; conversely, p_bar = p_kPa ÷ 100.
- p_barThe numerical pressure value expressed in bar.
- p_kPaThe numerical value of the same pressure expressed in kilopascals (kPa).
Multiply the entered bar value by 100 to obtain kilopascals. For the default input, p_kPa = 100 × 1 = 100. To convert in the reverse direction, divide a kilopascal value by 100; equivalently, multiply it by 0.01.

- 1 kilopascals =0.01 bar
How to use the Bar to Kilopascals
- 1Enter the pressure in the Value in bar (bar) field, or leave the default value of 1.
- 2Read the kilopascals result calculated by multiplying the bar input by 100.
- 3For the default input, confirm that the result is 100 kilopascals.
- 4Use the forward equivalence row to verify that 1 bar equals 100 kilopascals.
- 5Use the reverse equivalence row, 1 kilopascal equals 0.01 bar, when converting a kilopascal value back to bar.
Reading your result
The kilopascals result row gives the converted input pressure: 100 for the default input of 1 bar. The forward equivalence row states that 1 bar = 100 kilopascals. The reverse equivalence row states that 1 kilopascal = 0.01 bar; it is a unit relationship, not a second result for the entered pressure.
Limitations
The conversion factor is exact, but the result is only as precise as the input measurement and any displayed rounding. Conversion preserves the pressure reference: gauge pressure remains gauge pressure, and absolute pressure remains absolute pressure. This tool does not convert between gauge and absolute pressure or determine whether a pressure is safe for particular equipment.
Common questions
Why does 1 bar convert to 100 kilopascals?+
A bar is defined as 100,000 pascals, and a kilopascal is 1,000 pascals. Their ratio is exactly 100, so 1 bar equals 100 kilopascals.
How do I convert kilopascals back to bar?+
Divide the kilopascal value by 100. The reverse equivalence shown by this calculator is 1 kilopascal = 0.01 bar.
Does converting bar to kPa change gauge pressure into absolute pressure?+
No. The calculator changes only the unit. A gauge-pressure input in bar produces a gauge-pressure result in kPa; converting to absolute pressure also requires the relevant atmospheric pressure.
Why does the reverse row show 0.01 bar rather than the default input of 1 bar?+
That row expresses the value of one kilopascal in bar. The default input still converts from 1 bar to 100 kilopascals, and converting that result back gives 1 bar.
Does the calculator save my information?+
Calculations run in your browser. While signed in, inputs and results are automatically recorded in account history; saving a result creates a separate saved record.
